KOSIN UNIVERSITY SINCE1946









 

1946

Korea Seminary was founded by Christian leaders such as Revs. Joo Nam Sun and Han Sang Dong, who had been imprisoned for resisting the compulsory Shinto Shrine worship during the Japanese occupation of Korea, to produce pastors with pure faith and life.

1955

Calvin Institute, a 4-year college with the Departments of Theology, Religion, English Literature and Philosophy, was established.  Rev. Han Myung Dong served as the first president (1955 - 1963) and Dr. Lee Geun Sam as the second president (1963 - 1964)

 1964

Calvin institute was closed and reorganized as a college program in the Korea Seminary

 

Kosin Seminary was approved to be directly controlled by The General assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Korea (Kosin).

1969

Korea Seminary was recognized by the Ministry of Education as an educational institution equivalent to college level.

1970

Korea Theological College (Department of Theology) was founded with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

1976

The Department of Christian Education was established at Korea Theological College with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

1978

The Department of Religious Music was established at Korea Theological College with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

 

The Graduate School with the Master¡¯s programs in Theology (Th. M.) and Christian Education (M.A.) was established at Korea Theological College with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

1980

Korea Theological College was converted to Kosin College and the Department of Medicine was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education. 

 

Korea Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity Program) was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education. 

1985

Department of Health Sciences was established at Kosin College with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

1986

Departments of Biology and Food & Nutritional Sciences were established at Kosin College with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

 

Master¡¯s programs in Medical Sciences were established at the Graduate School of Kosin College with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

1987

Departments of Chemistry, Mathematics, Home Economics, and Child Education were established at Kosin College with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

1988

Department of Nursing Science was established at Kosin College with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

 

Ph. D. program in Medical Sciences was established at Kosin College Graduate School with the approval of the Ministry of Education. 

1993

Kosin College was converted to Kosin University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. 

 

Departments of Missiology/Mission Language and English Literature (Day/Evening courses) were established at Kosin University with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

 

Master¡¯s program in Chemistry was established at Kosin University Graduate School with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

 

Graduate School of Public Health (Master¡¯s program) was established at Kosin University with the approval of the Ministry of Education

 

The Institute of Continuing Education (with 14 different courses) was established at Kosin University with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

1995

Ph. D. program in Theology and Master¡¯s programs in Nursing and Religious Music were established at Kosin University Graduate School with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

1997

Graduate School of World Missions with Master¡¯s program in Missions was established in Kosin University with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

1998

New Campus of Kosin Theological Seminary was constructed in Chun-An, Choongnam.

 

Department of Biology was changed to Department of Life Sciences.

 

Departments of Advertising and Industrial Design were established at Kosin University with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

1999

Department of Family Management was changed to Department of Family Welfare.

 

Women¡¯s School of Theology was established at Kosin University.

 

Departments of Computer Sciences and Fine Arts were established at Kosin University with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

 

Graduate School of Education (with Departments of Christian Education, English Education, Biology Education, and Home Economics Education) was established at Kosin University with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

2000

Department of Public Health was divided into Department of Medical Management and Department of Environmental Health.

 

Department of Religious Music changed its name to Department of Church Music.

 

Departments of Nursing Education, Infant Education, Music Education, Mathematics Education, Environmental Education, and Counseling Psychology were established in the Graduate School of Education with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

2001

Department of Fine Arts was changed to Department of Painting.

2002

Graduate School of Human Life and Information(Majors in Institution, Restaurant and Food Distribution Management, Clinical Nutrition and Information Management, Interior and Environmental Design, and Visual Design and Moving Graphics) will be established at Kosin University with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

 

Majors in Special Education and Computer Education wil be established in the Graduate School of Education with the approval of the Ministry of Eductaion.

 

Major in Information Media will be established in the College of Computer science with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
